Bristol Drum Co. produces a range of wooden segmented snare drums. Our drums are all individually made in a workshop in Bristol, UK, and involve many hours of careful craftsmanship to produce each one.
Each snare has its own unique serial number, and no two drums will ever be completely identical.
Bristol Drum Co. specialises in solid wooden snare drums. None of the snares we produce uses bought in laminated shells or wraps - the heart of all the snare drums for sale here are real, hand-crafted segmented shells, made from a range of exotic and indigenous tone woods. The underlying design ethos is using the best materials and build techniques to produce the most rigid, stable and sonically responsive drum shell. The woods are chosen for their density and hardness, and are combined in unique segmented designs. The segmented construction (very much like the bond pattern in a brick wall) gives an exceptionally strong and rigid structure. The shells are generally machined to a thickness of 8mm to give the shell the optimum tonal response. What you will find here is a range of the best snare drums available, each with the individual sound and appearance that you can only find from an independent drum workshop.
The drums are made using a segmented construction technique. The appearance centres on the beauty of natural woods, cut and finished with traditional french polishing materials and techniques, or hard wearing lacquer, (these drums do not rely on wraps or veneers).
The finished drums come in a range of 10", 12", 13" and 14" diameters, and a wide range of depths.
High quality fittings are standard with an option to customise the drum hardware for individual orders.
A range of indigenous and exotic hardwoods are used to produce drum shells that both look and sound as a real drum should. Some of our drums have a traditional, vintage feel to them: this is enhanced with the use of stylish tube lugs that give a timeless classic look to the drums.
Additionally we have a range of very distinctive black drums that are anything but traditional, made using valchromat and a specially manufactured coloured ply veneer laminate.
