This snare uses a hybrid construction to get the stability and rigidity of a segmented shell along with the vertical grain arrangement of the central ash sections. These central sections of the shell are made from beautifully figured ash that are constructed using a stave arrangement (20 stave sections go into the manufacture of each ring). These are sandwiched between thin black segmented rings of wenge, with the top and bottom sections made from segmented iroko. The snare was fully reviewed in Rhythm Magazine (issue 301). Geoff Nicholls found it to be "less tubby than is often found with sub-14" drums...the drum is articulate with a buoyant frisky tone, with that crunchy centre snare response which remains true at wide tunings. It doesn't go boxy, hollow or tom-tom-like, even when the snare are tensioned extra taut". |
