This is a segmented shell made from Roupala. This timber comes from Central and South America, and is often known as Leopardwood due to its appearance.
It is a very dense, hard and heavy wood which makes it an ideal choice both in terms of stability and rigidity, but also acoustic response. This particular snare uses the natural unique speckled grain pattern, contrasted with a central band of wenge and beech.
