GETTING THE SOUND RIGHT
Tuning and getting the drum sound you want is both art and science. Every drummer has their own requirements. What a good drum provides is the instrument that makes this possible.
The shell of a Bristol Drum Co. snare does more that just keep the two heads spaced and tensioned. A plywood shell has a dull, toneless quality that does nothing to enhance the sound. A segmented hardwood shell will have a tone and responsiveness that brings the drum to life. This gives the drummer far greater tuning options and the chance to produce the drum sound needed.

Drum heads
Drum heads are supplied by D'Addario.
Usual drum heads fitted are an Evans level 360 G1 top head, or a Genera Dry top head. Both are single 10 mil thickness coated heads that give great response and sound profile.
The resonant head fitted is an Evans Hazy 300.
Black Onyx heads are fitted on the Black Series and the G2 head gives the perfect blend of sustain and attack for the larger, 1/2" thick shells.

The drums have a 45 degree bearing edge. The outer chamfer is cut in 2mm from the outer edge and the inner chamfer is cut to leave a point of contact for the head that is then very lightly finished with a fine glasspaper.

Gig bags
The drum shells are finished with traditional french polishing materials and techniques or with a high gloss lacquer. These drums are made to be hit, but it would be a shame for them to be given a hard time in between, so a Bristol Drum Co. gig bag is a must!
